Sing Alleluia! Music News
Apr. 8, 2021
A few years ago, my oldest son was messing around on the keyboard. He started playing this really cool movement in a weird "voice" setting. It was haunting and mournful. I adopted that short piece and created a song around it about Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane before His betrayal, arrest and subsequent crucifixion. I named the song "Gethsemane". Our church hosted a "Stations of the Cross" event last weekend (Good Friday / Saturday). My wife and I put created the Garden of Gethsemane station. We hastily (ie imperfectly) recorded this song and played it during the event at our station. The reverb and flange sound effects I used in recording gave the song that haunting vibe. The room was dark, a mannequin of Jesus was kneeling with his arms raised, silhouettes of the apostles sleeping and there were even night sounds playing in the background (crickets, etc.). It worked well. Unfortunately, there wasn't a full recording of the station, but a snippet can be seen here, near the beginning of the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clxUQMl7Sbc

My family and I were blessed to work with a congregation in Statesville, NC for 3 weeks this month. I was asked to plan and lead worship, as well as help mix the sound a little better, work with the praise team and just give some general advise on worship ministry. They are a wonderful group of believers who are trying to give their best to the Creator and serve their community mightily. Please pray for them as they search for a new pulpit minister. You can view two of those three worship services at the links below.

A song based on Psalm 147:3, 5-7 and Proverbs 18:10 was purchased yesterday. It is called "Sing (To The Lord)". A favorite line is in the third verse - "His shield is never-failing when Satan is assailing". Amen to that, right?

As I sit here recovering from both a recent ACL replacement and job loss, it lifts my spirits to receive a notification that another favorite composition of mine was purchased. "Walk On The Water" is a song about faith and trust. The chorus says this and is from Christ's perspective: "Get out of the boat and step onto the sea. By faith you can walk on the water with Me. Do not fear the storm or the waves of the sea. By faith you can walk on the water with me."

It is so encouraging to know that even during the COVID-19 pandemic, people are still interested in new worship music. Today I was delighted to see "Deeper" was one such song that was purchased and downloaded. It is one of my favorites. Wanting to have a deeper relationship with God is something I believe a lot of people are feeling right now.

The Cole Mill Road Church of Christ Ladies Welcome Brunch theme was "Iron Sharpens Iron", taken from Proverbs 27:17. When I learned of the text and theme for the brunch, a song just started flowing out of me. Of course, I named it "Iron Sharpens Iron"! They were gracious to include it and the song was well-received. A video of three ladies introducing it to the congregation on Feb. 6 is on the main page.

Keith's methods and instructions, along with the hosting church's preparation and participation results in a vibrant and engaging worship experience!

The Cole Mill Road Church of Christ Ladies Welcome Brunch used the theme "Revive Us". In the past year or more, we as a church body experienced a lot of spiritual and emotional blows that left us reeling sometimes. From deaths, to cancer, to a new ministry position that didn't pan out, to so many other things. I felt compelled to (very quickly) compose a song that tried to capture our experiences and feelings while pleading with the Spirit to revive us! "Revive our hearts, restore our souls. Let Your Spirit move within us. Renew the flame, removed the cold. Let Your Spirit burn within us. Revive us!" Three wonderful ladies hurriedly learned the song and sang it for the brunch attendees. (see video on main page)
